Design and the Market - Group Enterprise Research Project /1

After we set up our group we decided to find a couple designers/companies to have a look at individually. On the next meeting we discussed our findings and because we realised how many possible interviewees are out there we decided to do more research about them.

I started to look at Craig Fellow's work - http://craigfellows.co.uk/ - not just because I'm a printer and I found his prints absolutely amazing but also because his website is so professionally organised. He managed to build up his own brand and also to think outside of the box and create several different products with his prints on them to put on the market. His brand identity is unmistakable and you can find everything you need to know about him and his work on his website. He graduated in 2008 but already a winner of several design awards. Most recently he won Best Product Award 2012 with Scotland's Trade Fair.

I also researched Judy R Clark - http://judyrclark.blogspot.com/ - a young Scottish fashion designer based in Edinburgh. She had an internship with the late Alexander McQueen label and after that she sold in several Scottish Boutiques. She set up her own business in 2009 and since then she sells her label worldwide. It seems she's  always been conscious about being successful as she attended business courses (Starter for 6 run by NESTA), exhibitions, networking events and arranged fashion events too. She uses mostly traditional materials such as Harris Tweed, vintage lace, and feathers, but on her blog I found a recent project where she combined these materials with various car parts from a Ford Focus. It turned out to be amazing.

During The meeting  my group mates presented other very inspirational designers like  Fiona Howard, William Chambers, and we were also thinking about research Selvedge Magazine but that seemed to be a bit confusing because it involves too many areas to research into.
Finally we decided to choose Marc Ross, a young fashion designer who's part of the Design Collective Scotland.
